DHS Announcement on New Security

Earlier this month, the east coast was hit hard with a cyber attack. This ended up affecting a rather large pipeline company, called Colonial Pipeline.

Colonial Pipeline was forced to shut down its entire infrastructure to contain the threat after the attack and was followed by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) declaring a state of emergency in 17 states and the District of Columbia.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, a new ordinance, stating it will demand all major pipeline owners to report any and all cyber attacks to their network to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Hopefully with the security requirement in place, a large schemed attack will have a harder time accessing networks to place ransomware.
